Dates have numerous essential nutrients such as calcium, amino acids, sulphur, iron, potassium, phosphorus, manganese, copper, and magnesium that highly benefit the body. They are also wonderful sources of dietary fiber and are rich in vitamins A1,B1,B2,B3, and B5. Dates help in fighting constipation, intestinal disorders, weight gain, heart problems, and sexual weakness.

Dates

Medjool dates also known as the "king of dates" or the "crown jewel of dates" and are dried prior to consumption. There are very large, extremely sweet in taste and have a lot meat. The center of each date contains an elongated pit and range in color from a deep brown, crimson or dark purple. The fruits are formed in clusters under the palm-like leaves and are classified into three cultivars: dry, semi-dry and soft.

Cire dates are medium to large sized oblong shaped fruits. They have thick caramel colored flesh that surrounds a single seed. Cire dates are known to have a unique, granular texture with a very distinct, but not overpowering, aromatic flavor.

Dayri dates are large, oblong shaped fruits with thick flesh surrounding a single seed. Dayri dates are dark brown to black in color, tender and chewy in texture, sweet and earthy in flavor.

Empress dates are a light caramel to maroon in color, while most have a distinctive yellow crown at the top of the fruit. The flesh of the Empress date maintains similar coloring as the skin, a light caramel color and surrounds a singular seed.

Barhi dates are rare for being tasty in both their yellow, crunchy state (khalal in Arabic) and their soft, brown state. At this rutab stage of ripeness, their skins are thin and crackling, giving way to a smooth, creamy interior that tastes like brown sugar and caramel.
